NEW YORK — Former Tiger standouts Mark Roman and Rondell Mealey were selected in the second and seventh round, respectively, in the 2000 National Football League’s annual seven-round draft held this past weekend in New York.
Roman, a cornerback/safety from New Iberia, La., was chosen by the Cincinnati Bengals as the 34th pick overall and the third pick of the second round on Saturday. He was Cincinnati’s second of seven picks.
Cincinnati also chose WR Peter Warrick (Florida State), WR Ron Dugans (Florida State), RB Curtis Keaton (James Madison), DB Robert Bean (Mississippi State), K/P Neil Rackers (Illinois) and TE Brad St. Louis (Southwest Missouri State).
Destrehan native Rondell Mealey was selected by the Green Bay Packers as the third-to-last pick of the NFL draft and the 252nd pick overall.
Green Bay had 13 picks in the NFL draft including five in the seventh round. The Packers also chose TE Bubba Franks (Miami), OL Chad Clifton (Tennessee), DL Steven Warren (Nebraska), LB Na’il Diggs (Ohio State), WR Anthony Lucas (Arkansas), DB Gary Berry (Ohio State), DL Kareer Gbaja-Biamila (San Diego State), WR Joey Jamison (Texas Southern), OL Mark Tauscher (Wisconsin), DL Ron Moore (Northwest Oklahoma State), WR Charles Lee (Central Florida) and LB Eugene McCaslin (Florida).
As of Feb. 1, the Packers had six running backs on their roster, including seventh-year back Dorsey Levens, sixth-year back William Henderson, fourth-year back Rashaan Salaam, second-year back Basil Mitchell, second-year back Da’Mond Parker and second-year back Matt Snider.
