SALT LAKE CITY – Although the LSU gymnastics team lost its bid for a national championship, three Tigers have their chance at the NCAA Individual Event Finals tonight at 7 p.m. MDT in Salt Lake City.
Former Canadian Olympian Shanyn MacEachern will compete on vault for the Tigers while Colleen Barger and Stacey Wegener will compete on beam. Each qualified by scoring among the top four scores in Thursday’s preliminary round of the NCAA Team Championship.
Barger and Wegener each scored 9.85s to lead LSU’s No. 2-ranked beam team while MacEachern led the Tigers with the same score on vault.
By qualifying for the Individual Event Final, Barger, MacEachern, and Wegener were named first-team All Americans.
On Thursday, LSU finished fourth in the afternoon session of the Team Championships, losing to Arizona State by only five-hundredths of a point.
Georgia, UCLA, Arizona State, Alabama, Michigan, and Nebraska competed in the Super Six final late Friday night.
