BATON ROUGE — A dramatic two-run home run by Southern Mississippi catcher Kenya Peters drove the Golden Eagles to the championship round of the NCAA Regional at Tiger Park Saturday night, 4-3, over top-seeded LSU.
The come-from-behind win knocks LSU out of the tournament and finishes the TIgers season at 56-10. Southern Miss, who will meet Oregon State Sunday at 1 p.m., is now 51-6 on the year.
Peters blast off Britni Sneed completed a comeback from 3-1 down entering the bottom of the sixth. Erin Johnson started the scoring rally with a triple to right field which scored Jennifer Ford. That set up the Peters heroics.
LSU had taken a 3-1 lead on three unearned run in the third inning set up on an infield error and followed with hits by Dee Douglas and Stephanie Hastings. The Hastings single drove in a run and Ashlee Ducote’s double got the other two home.
