BATON ROUGE, La. — LSU head coach Skip Bertman will return to Baton Rouge Tuesday after directing the United States team to the gold medal at the Pan American Maccabi Games in Mexico City.
The U.S. team defeated Canada, 12-4, in the gold medal game Monday. The American squad posted a perfect 7-0 mark in Maccabi Games competition with Bertman as its head coach.
The Pan American Maccabi Games are designed for Jewish teens ages 13 to 16. The Games are held every four years and feature participants from North America, Central America, South America and Israel.
The U.S. team was sponsored by Maccabi USA/Sports for Israel, which is dedicated to enriching the lives of Jews through a variety of athletic, cultural and educational programs.
Bertman will oversee the operation of his summer camps for the remainder of July before preparing for the beginning of LSU’s fall semester. The members of the 2000 LSU squad are scheduled to report to campus August 16.
