OMAHA, Neb. — Getting your name or face in Sports Illustrated used to be the pinnacle of sports. In today’s world, getting on ESPN’s SportsCenter has taken the place of the old print standard. So, what does does it mean when you’re featured in ESPN’s Top Play…on consecutive nights? That would make you LSU centerfielder Leon Landry.
Landry, a freshman from Baton Rouge, accomplished that feat last week when he stole a home run over the 10-foot Alex Box Stadium wall against UC Irvine in the Tigers’ 11-5 loss on Saturday. A day later, his diving catch early in LSU’s 9-7 comeback victory on Sunday was ESPN’s play of the day.
An attempt at a third-straight top play came up just short, and he’s got a shiner near his right eye to show for it.
