Women's Golfer LaBauve Beats Champ at Southern Amateur

LaBauve Falls in Southern Amateur Final, 3-and-2

KINGWOOD, Texas — The strong afternoon play of University of Arkansas senior Lucy Nunn proved to be the difference as LSU Lady Tiger golfer Lindy LaBauve fell 3-2 and to Nunn in the finals Friday of the 36-hole 93rd annual Woman’s Southern Amateur at the Island Course at the Kingwood Club.

It marked the second year for an Arkansas player to win the title after former NCAA champion Stacy Lewis won the title in 2007.

LaBauve, who won four matches in three days to get to the championship match, was all even with Nunn after 18 holes. But Nunn quickly moved ahead on the front nine of the second 18, moving to three up after 26 holes. LaBauve, who will be a sophomore for Coach Karen Bahnsen’s golf team next season, won the 27th hole to go to the final nine just two down.

The two swapped hole wins on the next two holes with Nunn getting an advantage on the 28th hole before LaBauve took it back to two down with a birdie on the 29th hole with seven to play. The players halved the next two holes before Nunn won the 33rd hole with a par and closed the match with both players playing to par on the 34th hole, leaving LaBauve down an insurmountable, 3 and 2.
