KINGWOOD, Texas — LSU’s Lindy LaBauve, who will be a sophomore for Karen Bahnsen’s LSU Lady Tigers in the upcoming 2008-09, will play for one of women’s amateur golf’s prestigious titles after advancing to the championship match of the 93rd Women’s Southern Amateur at the Kingwood Club here Thursday.
LaBauve had to win two matches on Thursday and will play another 36 holes in the championship match on Friday beginning at 7:30 a.m.
In the quarterfinals, LaBauve took advantage of opponent mistakes while playing very steady golf to defeat junior golfer Natalie Reeves of Euless, Texas, 3 and 2. It was the first match this week that LaBauve did not have to go the full 18 or extra holes to win the match.
In the semifinal round against mid-am Marilyn Hardy of Houston, the pair exchanged the lead in the early going before LaBauve, playing out of the Baton Rouge University Club, took control of the match to get a 5 up lead, before finishing the match out on the 17th hole, 2 and 1.
In the finals, LaBauve will face Lucy Nunn of Lawton, Okla, who plays for the University of Arkansas.
