Hofer, Mitchell Among Five on All-Louisiana Softball Teams

BATON ROUGE — LSU junior Dani Hofer and sophomore Rachel Mitchell earned All-Louisiana first team honors from the Louisiana Sports Writers Association, it was announced on Sunday.

Along with Hofer and Mitchell, seniors Quinlan Duhon, Dee Dee Henderson and Shannon Stein were named to the All-Louisiana second team, while Cody Trahan, Jazz Jackson and Killian Roessner earned honorable mention honors.

The teams were voted on by an LSWA panel of school Sports Information personnel and local media members after nominations were made by the softball playing four-year colleges and universities in the state. The voting was based on the regular season play of the teams through their conference tournaments.

Hofer was 18-7 on the year with a 1.90 ERA, but was forced to miss over a month at the conclusion of the season due to a wrist injury. The Safety Harbor, Fla., native posted 210 strikeouts in 144.0 innings. She ranked 12th in the NCAA in strikeouts per seven innings and 70th in the NCAA in ERA. In addition, she was in the top 10 in the Southeastern Conference in wins, ERA and strikeouts. She posted four wins over nationally ranked teams and six of her seven losses came to nationally ranked teams. Against nationally ranked Georgia, she threw a complete-game one-hitter and posted double-figure strikeouts in nine contests. She was a two-time SEC Pitcher of the Week and a member of the East Tiger Classic All-Tournament team.

Mitchell did not suffer from the sophomore slump in her second campaign with the Tigers. The NFCA Second-Team All-South Region selection and first-team All-SEC honoree led LSU in seven offensive categories including batting average, home runs, and RBIs. In addition, she ranked in the top 10 in the SEC in 10 offensive categories and was in the top 100 in the NCAA in five. Leading the team with 21 multiple-hit games, she also tied for the team lead with 13 multiple-RBI games. In nine games, she was responsible for the game-winning RBI, including wins over nationally ranked Tennessee and Georgia. In a win over Arkansas, she tied the LSU single-game record with two home runs and posted a hit in 19 of the last 22 games of the regular season.

A member of the All-SEC second team and the SEC All-Tournament team, Duhon ended the regular season on an 11-game hitting streak, the longest of her career. She also ranked second on the team in batting average, RBIs and home runs. She was second on the team with 15 multiple-hit games and knocked in the game-winning runs in four games. She finished her career ranked in the top 10 in school history in doubles, home runs, RBIs, walks and sacrifice flies.

An NFCA second-team All-South Region selection, Stein was third on the team in batting average and doubles and ranked in the top 35 in the NCAA in toughest players to strikeout. Against Arkansas and Troy, she recorded walk-off hits and against Auburn posted the first inside-the-park home run in four years.

For the fourth-straight season, Henderson led the Tigers in stolen bases. The senior became only the second player in LSU history to record 30 stolen bases in a single season. In addition, she became only the second play in school history and sixth in SEC history to record 100 stolen bases in her career. In wins over nationally ranked Cal State Fullerton and Mississippi State, Henderson knocked in the game-winning runs.
