Women’s Golf Remains 19th After Blustery Second Round

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — After  experiencing 50 miles per hour winds in the aborted start of the second round on Wednesday, the LSU women’s golf team was back on the course at 7 a.m. in 50-degree temperatures, wind-blown rain and even experienced a 20-minute lightening delay in the final moments of the round.

In the end, LSU was unable to recover from the 9-over-par start for the first three holes Wednesday and couldn’t get back on track Thursday morning and remained in 19th place going to Thursday’s third round that was sent for a shotgun start at 1:30 p.m. CDT in still cool, but sunny and windy conditions.

LSU shot a 27-over 315 to stand at 615, 39-over after 36 holes. Rebecca Kuhn had the low round of the morning with a 3-over 75 and is tied with Megan McChrystal at 7-over for 36 holes for the low Lady Tiger total. Unofficially they are tied for 45 in the individual competition. McChrystal, who opened with a 1-over 73 on Tuesday, struggled to a 78 on Thursday.

The four teams that finished Wednesday before the wind problems — USC (+8), UCLA (+8), Denver (+11) and Arizona State (+15) — are not surprisingly the leaders entering the afternoon round.

Live scoring and webcast video coverage of holes 10, 17 and 18 will be available through golfstatresults.com and ncaa.com. A complete recap of LSU’s day at the tournament will be posted later this evening on LSUsports.net.
