BATON ROUGE — LSU gymnasts Ashleigh Clare-Kearney and Susan Jackson earned All-SEC First Team honors for their performances during the 2008 season.
Clare-Kearney, a junior from Manchester, Conn., was also named the SEC Co-Gymnast of the Year with Lindsey Puckett from Auburn on Saturday, voted on by the coaches.
Clare-Kearney posted a meet high 39.600 in the all-around at the SEC Championships. Jackson, a sophomore from Spring, Texas, placed sixth in the all-around with a 39.450.
During the season, Clare-Kearney posted 10.0 scores on the vault and floor against Michigan State. It was only the second time in school history a gymnast scored two perfect scores in a single meet.
Her all-around score of 39.800 against Michigan State tied her for the third best individual all-around score in school history
Jackson, a 2007 first-team Freshman All-American, has notched a career high all-around score of 39.525 against Centenary and Florida this season. She posted back-to-back-to-back scores of 9.975 on the floor against Michigan State, Centenary and Washington.
Clare-Kearney and Jackson are both in the top 25 in the nation’s all-around rankings. Clare-Kearney jumped to No. 2, after coming in at No. 3 last week, with an RQS of 39.570. Jackson jumped from No. 22 to No. 18 with an RQS of 39.370.
Clare-Kearney is ranked in each individual event, coming in at No. 2 on the vault, No. 5 on the floor, No. 12 on the beam and No. 14 on the bars.
Jackson is No. 7 on the floor and is tied for No. 8 on the vault.
The first-team All-SEC honor is the second for Clare-Kearney in as many years.
