No. 8 Gym Team Hosts First of Two Weekend Meets

Gymnastics Ranked Seventh in National Poll

BATON ROUGE — The LSU gymnastics fell two spots to No. 7 in the national rankings after being at No. 5 for four straight weeks.
 
Last weekend, the Tigers finished fourth at the SEC Championships in Duluth, Ga. The Tigers, who scored a 196.500, finished behind Georgia, Florida and Alabama.
 
The Tigers regional qualifying score rose from 196.695 to 196.730.
 
Georgia (197.400) remained in the top spot, with Utah (197.255) jumping Florida (197.225) for the second position. Alabama (196.870) and Michigan (196.825) also fall in the top five.
 
Stanford (196.770), LSU, Oregon State (196.650), UCLA (196.510) and Oklahoma (196.450) round out the top 10.
 
In individual events, the Tigers stayed put at the No. 2 spot on the vault with an RQS of 49.415, thanks in part to notching a 49.350 in the event at the SEC Championships. They also jumped a spot on the floor, placing fifth with a 49.325.
 
Unfortunately, the Tigers fell in the other two individual events. They slipped two spots on the bars, coming in at No. 7 with a 49.225. On the beam, they fell to No. 13 after placing tenth last week. Their beam RQS is 49.065.
 
Individually, two Tigers climbed in the all-around rankings. Ashleigh Clare-Kearney jumped to No. 2, after coming in at No. 3 last week, with an RQS of 39.570. Additionally, Susan Jackson jumped from No. 22 to No. 18 with an RQS of 39.370. Clare-Kearney finished first in the all-around at the SEC Championships, while Jackson placed sixth.
 
Clare-Kearney held her ground at No. 2 on the vault with a 9.955. The junior from Manchester, Conn. also moved up to No. 5 on the floor with an RQS of 9.930 and to No. 14 on the bars with a 9.890. However, she slipped one spot to No. 12 on the beam with a 9.880.
 
Jackson came in at No. 7 on the floor with a 9.920. She is also tied for No. 8 on the vault with a 9.915.
 
The Tigers next competition will be the NCAA Regionals on Saturday, April 12, at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center in Baton Rouge, La. The competition will start at 6 p.m. (CT).
