BATON ROUGE- The LSU men’s tennis team will host the Jerry Simmons Invitational Saturday and Sunday at the LSU Tennis Complex.
The eight-team tournament features LSU, Georgia State, Lamar, New Orleans, Nicholls, Penn State, South Florida and UL-Lafayette.
Matches begin Saturday at 8 a.m. CT and Sunday at 9 a.m. CT. LSU will face Lamar in the first match Saturday and will begin play with singles. The second round will begin at 1 p.m. CT. The Tigers will play at either 1 p.m. CT or 2 p.m. CT depending on the outcome of the first match. In the second match, LSU will face either New Orleans or Georgia State and honor former men’s tennis coach Jerry Simmons at the conclusion of doubles play.

Thoughts from the Co-Head Coach Andy Brandi
“This weekend will have stiffer competition,” co-head coach Andy Brandi said. “We will be challenged in every match and will need to do a good job competing.”
The Matchup
LSU is 2-0 to start the season and will face Lamar, who is 0-2 to start the season after opening the season in Lubbock, Texas against New Mexico and Texas Tech. LSU has the 24-9 advantage in the series.
Tiger Tidbits
The Tigers had many new faces on the court last weekend in the Donni Leaycraft Scramble when LSU defeated Alabama State and UAB, 4-0, in each match.
Malik Bhatnagar, Shane Monroe, Nikola Samardzic, Joey Thomas, Rafael Wagner and Nick Watson each secured wins on the singles courts, and doubles pairs Wagner and Thomas and Monroe and Samardzic each started the season 1-0.
