BATON ROUGE – The LSU beach volleyball team has announced the addition of six players in the early signing period, coach Russell Brock announced Friday.
The group consists of girls from across the country, four of which who signed national letters of intent and two who will walk-on. The class will come to Baton Rouge with some of them having already competed together in the sand.
The first two signees are Sierra Caffo and Grace Seits have spent time together on the same club in San Diego.
Sierra Caffo reigns from San Diego where she was a four-year letter winner in both indoor and beach volleyball at Point Loma High School. After finishing up as the California state runner-up her sophomore season, Caffo helped lead her team to a 23-12 record as in 2017 all the way to a championship. In her final two seasons, Caffo has been a team captain.
“Sierra is a true blocker who impacts play at the net defensively and has a well-developed offensive game,” said Brock. “She is physical and also has great touch and is an excellent setter.”
Grace Seits is a two-time All-League performer in Ramona, California. Over her first three years, she helped lead her team to the league championship every season, compiling a 97-38 record over those three seasons. Seits will look to take her team to new heights in her senior campaign.
“Grace is tall and is really growing quickly into her potential,” explained Brock. “She brings great ball control skills and a real knack for blocking. She’s just beginning to tap into her ability to dominate this sport.”
Liz Masters is the third signee of the class and comes to LSU via Columbus, Ohio. Since 2016, Masters has finished top-three in five beach tournaments. Last May, she won the U18 Volley America Flyaway Tournament.
“Liz is an imposing blocker with elite physical ability,” Brock Explained. “She is a special athlete and has been making waves on the junior level with her strong play for years.”
Masters and the next signee, Sydney Moore, have played over 30 beach tournaments together. The duo has won 11 tournaments with the most recent victory coming in July of 2017 at the Junior Beach Tour Championships in Siesta Key, Florida.
Moore, a native of Pickerington, Ohio has competed in over 40 beach volleyball tournaments since 2014. Since the start of 2017, Moore has placed in the top-five of 10 tournaments.
“Sydney is one of the quickest players we’ve ever had, said Brock. “She is an established defender with a lethal jump serve who frustrates opponents with her defensive ability.”
Lara Boos has had a successful career, highlighted by being as an All-American. Reigning from Holy Trinity Episcopal Academy in Indialantic, Florida, Boos has helped lead her team to district championship every year that she has been there. A winner of the MaxPreps player of the week in Florida, Boos holds the school record for kills in a game and career blocks. A two-time qualifier for the Junior Olympics, Boos has finished third-place in the USA Decision.
“Lara is a really long player who has a great flexible skill set,” said Brock. “She moves well, has great shots and has the ability to impact our program as a blocker or defender.”
Natalie Martin, from Mission, Texas has accumulated over 1,000 career digs and kills in her prep career at Oak Ridge High School. Heading into her senior season, Martin was named to the AVCA Under Armour All-American watch list performed to that level, helping to lead her team to 39 victories and gathering over 500 digs and kills. Martin helped lead her team to a district championship twice and is a three-time first team all-district player.
“Natalie is a physical defender,” said Brock. “She is disciplined and skilled. Her strongest asset is her arm which is compact and lets her play well above the net with power.”
