Baton Rouge, La. – Redshirt senior goalkeeper Caroline Brockmeier was named to the United Soccer Coaches Women’s NCAA Division I Scholar All-America Team on Tuesday, the national organization announced.
Brockmeier, who is pursuing her master’s degree in kinesiology with a focus on motor behavior, was named to the Second Team for her work in the classroom and on the field. Brockmeier, a 2017 graduate of LSU with an undergrad degree in kinesiology, owns a current GPA of 3.90 in her graduate classes; she is on track to earn her master’s in May.
The 2018 SEC Tournament MVP, Brockmeier played the best soccer of her career in her final season as she registered career bests in goal this season with 13 wins, 10 shutouts, 109 saves, an .813 save percentage and only allowing 0.98 goals per 90 minutes played.
Her play was crucial in LSU’s first ever SEC Tournament title run earlier this fall. Brockmeier made 19 saves in LSU’s week that consisted of four matches in eight days. She made three important stops in penalty kicks, two against Tennessee in the semifinals and one against Arkansas in the championship match, to propel the Tigers to their first ever conference title.
Brockmeier ended her three-year career in Baton Rouge as the school record holder in two categories: 287 saves and a save percentage of .793. Her 10 shutouts this season and 24 during her career rank as the second most in program history and her 28 total wins are the second most ever for the Purple and Gold.
In order to be considered for the award, players had to have a GPA of 3.30 or higher, start in more than 50 percent of games played by their team and be a junior or above in academic standing. The full list of honorees can be found at unitedsoccercoaches.org.
