Parker Named Third Team All-American

Baton Rouge, La. – LSU sophomore defender Lucy Parker has been selected as a United Soccer Coaches Third Team All-American, the coaching organization announced Thursday night.

Parker shined on the LSU backline in her second season in Baton Rouge. Making the move to center back, Parker helped the Tigers register 10 shutouts on the season to rank 11th in the nation; the 10 shutouts were the second most in LSU single season history. The Purple and Gold allowed the fifth-lowest goals against average, 0.98, in school history as well this fall.

A native of Cambridge, England, Parker made her presence felt on the offensive side of the pitch as well. Parker scored three times in 2018, two of which were game winners. In LSU’s final home match of the regular season against No. 8 South Carolina, Parker carried the Tigers to victory with goals in the 89th and 106th minutes. The first one pushed the match to overtime when she rifled in a volley to the far left post from the right side of the box with a little bit over a minute left to play. Then, in overtime, Parker ripped a curling shot from 30 yards out to beat a diving South Carolina goalkeeper for the golden goal.

The SEC all-first teamer lone other goal of the season came on Sept. 9 against Samford. A mainstay on the backline all season long, Parker played 2,286 of a possible 2,303 minutes. Earning the All-America honor, Parker becomes the first LSU player since 2013 and 10th ever in program history to be recognized on the national level.
