Brockmeier, Parker, and Thomas Named to All-Region Team

Baton Rouge, La. Caroline Brockmeier, Lucy Parker and Alex Thomas were rewarded for their superb play during the 2018 season and were named to the United Soccer Coaches Division I All-Southeast Region Team on Monday; Brockmeier and Parker were first team selections, while Thomas was named to the second team.

Brockmeier made the most of her redshirt senior year and had career bests in wins (13), shutouts (10), saves (109), save percentage (.813) and goals against average (0.98). Brockmeier, the 2018 SEC Tournament MVP, will go down as one of the best goalkeepers in LSU history and her numbers back that up. She ended her Purple and Gold career with the most saves (287) and the highest save percentage (.793) in the record book. She racked up 28 career wins and 24 career shutouts to rank second in both of those categories, and her career goals against average of 1.19 is the third best in program history.

Brockmeier was key in LSU’s run to its first ever SEC Tournament title as she made 19 saves over four matches; she also stopped three attempts in penalties, two against Tennessee in the quarterfinals and one against Arkansas in the championship match, to help LSU claim the trophy. Brockmeier teamed up with LSU’s backline to hold opponents scoreless for 558-straight minutes in a streak that was the second longest in program history and spanned over seven matches from late August to mid-September. Her 10 shutouts this season rank as the 11th most in the nation and second most in a single season in LSU history.

Parker, a sophomore, had a great season on the backline as one of the premiere defenders in the nation. She helped LSU’s backline register a goals against average of 0.98 marking only the fifth time in school history that the Tigers have allowed less than one goal per match. A vocal leader and one that pushed forward on the attacking end every so often scored three goals in 2018, two of which were game winners. Her two biggest goals of the season came in LSU’s double overtime victory over No. 8 South Carolina on Oct. 20. With the Tigers trailing late in the match by a score of 1-0, Parker scored a goal in the 89th minute to level the match up and force overtime. Parker pulled off a brace and circled around with her second goal of the game in the 106th minute from 30 yards out to give LSU the 2-1 victory. Her lone other goal came on Sept. 9 against Samford.

Thomas, a New Orleans native, played a variety of roles during her senior season mixing in as a defender and forward. Thomas ended the season as the team leader in points with 18 (7g & 4a). Sixteen of her 18 points were registered against SEC opponents and she mixed in the second-longest point streak in school history by factoring into the box score eight matches in a row. In the eight-match span that she scored, she kicked in six goals and added four assists, a career high. Her best performance of the season came in the opening round of the SEC Tournament against Missouri; having never scored a hat trick in college, Thomas knocked in three goals to become the first LSU player to ever score three goals in an SEC Tournament match. The win over Missouri ignited LSU’s historic run to the SEC title. Thomas scored four penalty kicks in 2018 to rank second nationally in that category and her five career penalties converted are the second most in program history. She started all 83 games of her four-year career that featured 17 goals and 10 assists for 44 points. Her 83 career starts are the sixth most in school history and her 7,316 minutes totaled over her four-year run are the second most to ever be played in a career at LSU.
