Men’s Tennis Opens Home Weekend Against No. 14 Georgia

BATON ROUGE – The LSU men’s tennis team opens its home weekend with a match against the No. 14 Georgia Bulldogs at 5 p.m. CT in the LSU Tennis Complex.

The Tigers will be giving away handheld cooling fans at Friday’s match. Admission to all matches is free. Fans can watch the match at LSUsports.net/tennisvideo, and live stats are available at LSUstats.com.

LSU will continue its weekend with a match against Memphis at noon Sunday.

Thoughts from the Co-Head Coach Chris Brandi
“Every match in the SEC is tough, but it is always fun to get a chance at Georgia, who has traditionally dominated the league,” co-head coach Chris Brandi said. “We are happy to be back on our home courts this weekend.”

The Matchup
Georgia holds the overall 51-18 advantage against LSU. Last season, LSU dropped a 4-1 match to Georgia in Athens at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex. The Tigers clinched the doubles point with wins on courts one and two. Current pair Gabor Csonka and Julian Saborio defeated Georgia’s Nathan Ponwith and Emil Reinberg, 6-4, on court two.

Tiger Tidbits
The Tigers are 8-8 on the season and 1-4 in SEC play. Last time out, LSU dropped a 7-0 match to Tulane in New Orleans.

On court three, Rafael Wagner has a 7-5 overall record. The sophomore has a team-best 17 wins. Csonka holds an 8-5 record on the dual season, and he has collected six wins on court two.

The doubles pair of Shane Monroe and Stewart Block has a team-best eight wins on court three. Moreno and Wagner are 5-3 on the second court, and on court one, Csonka and Saborio have four wins.

Notes on the Bulldogs
Georgia has an overall record of 8-6 and is 1-4 in the league. Last time out, the Bulldogs lost 4-3 at Arkansas.

Georgia has six men ranked in singles: No. 15 Wayne Montgomery, No. 21 Jan Zielinski, No. 31 Walker Duncan, No. 55 Reinberg, No. 97 Nathan Ponwith and No. 107 Paul Oosterbaan.

In doubles, the Bulldogs have three pairs ranked: No. 10 Zielinski and Robert Loeb, No. 24 Zielinski and Duncan and No. 28 Montgomery and Duncan.

Zielinski leads the bulldogs with an 11-1 record and has recorded six wins on court four for the Bulldogs in the dual season. Montgomery and Duncan each have seven total wins on the singles courts. Montgomery has collected his wins across the top two courts while Duncan’s have come from courts four and five.

In doubles play. Montgomery and Duncan lead the Bulldogs with a 6-2 record on court two.
