TEMPE, Ariz. – After compiling 11 event titles in the Louisiana Classics last week, the LSU track & field teams will compete in Tempe, Arizona, this weekend at the Pac-12/Big Ten Invitational this Friday and Saturday, March 23-24.
The Lady Tigers were ranked No. 9 in the nation earlier this week in the 2018 USTFCCCA Preseason Outdoor National Rankings after finishing the indoor season ranked No. 6.
LSU dominated the majority, in-state field last weekend in Lafayette, but both will face much stiffer competition this weekend as multiple ranked-squads representing the Pac-12 and Big Ten Conferences will be participating.
The Big Ten teams competing are Nebraska (No. 9 men & No. 16 women), Michigan (No. 24 men & No. 18 women), Penn State (No. 16 men) and Indiana. The Pac-12 will bring host Arizona State (No. 14 women), California (No. 15 women) and Colorado.
LSU is a Pac-12 fill-in for the weekend, and it marks the first time in meet history that an SEC program will be featured.
Friday’s action will commence at 3:00 p.m. CT with Jake Norris getting things going for LSU at 4:50 p.m. CT in the men’s hammer throw. The first LSU action on Saturday will be at 6:30 p.m. CT with Briana Kelly, Abby O’Donoghue and Kaitlyn Walker competing in the women’s high jump. The Invitational will wrap up at 10:27 p.m. CT with the women’s and men’s 4×400 meter relays.
