NEW ORLEANS – LSU senior sprinter Mikiah Brisco has been named the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Regional Women’s Track Athlete of the Year today. Brisco represents No. 4 LSU as the elite runner in the South Central Region.

“We are excited for Mikiah to be recognized in this manner,” said LSU head coach Dennis Shaver. “Being honored as one of the top athletes in the nation puts her in elite company and shines the spotlight on how amazing her performances have been this season.”

The Baton Rouge native continues to write her legacy as one of the most prolific sprinters in LSU track & field history. Brisco recorded the second-fastest time in NCAA history in the women’s 60-meter dash on Feb. 3 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. She won the race in a time of 7.08 at altitude, just .01 off the top mark. That time remains the sixth fastest in the world this season.

Brisco won the Southeastern Conference title in the event on March 25, matching her altitude-adjusted time of 7.10 in the finals. She finished second at the SEC Championships in the 200 meters to score 18 points in the meet. Her time of 22.81 in the 200 ranks second nationally in the event, as well as being the second-fastest time in the world this season.

Brisco begins competition at the NCAA Championships in College Station, Texas, on Friday, March 9, with the 60 meters semifinals at 6:15 p.m., followed by the 200 meters semifinals at 7:50 p.m.
