BATON ROUGE – The LSU women’s tennis team will host No. 10 Georgia and No. 17 Tennessee to open its SEC schedule on Friday, March 2 and Sunday, March 4 at the LSU Tennis Complex.
The Tigers (9-1) will face Georgia (5-2) Friday at 3 p.m. CT and Tennessee (12-0) Sunday at noon CT.
LSU capped off its non-conference schedule with a monumental 4-3 comeback win over No. 39 Rice, improving to an undefeated 8-0 at home this season.
After compiling a 6-7 conference record last season including the highest-ranked win in program history against No. 5 Auburn, LSU will open its 2018 SEC schedule with a couple of tough matches against top-20 foes.
“Every team in our conference is exceptionally good,” co-head coach Julia Sell said. “They’re all extremely competitive and well-coached, and I think from here on out we’re going to be playing the best of the best. This is a big opportunity for our team to not only improve, but to prove themselves and prove what they can do because they have a lot left in them.”
Reigning SEC Freshman of the Week Eden Richardson, ranked No. 105 in the country, leads the team with 19 total singles wins and junior No. 80 Jessica Golovin is tops on the team with 10 dual singles victories. Golovin and senior captain Ryann Foster, ranked No. 102, are a combined 11-0 across the top two courts so far this dual season.
Georgia currently rosters five ranked players led by freshman Katarina Jokic, the sixth-ranked player in the country, on court one. The Bulldogs are coached by Jeff Wallace in his 32nd year with the program.
Tennessee is currently tied for the most total team wins in the SEC after a strong nonconference slate and is led by junior Sadie Hammond on court one. Foster defeated Hammond, 6-2, 6-3, in their matchup last season in Knoxville, Tennessee. The Volunteers are coached by Alison Ojeda in her second season with the team.
