BATON ROUGE, La. – Just one week after competing in the SEC Championships, the LSU swimming team is headed back to College Station for the third time this season to compete in the Texas A&M Last Chance Meet. The meet represents one last opportunity for the Tigers to drop seconds in hopes of qualifying for the 2018 NCAA Championships next month.
The meet will take place at the Rec Center Natatorium starting tomorrow and running through Sunday, with prelims starting at 10 a.m. and finals starting at 5 p.m. each day.
For swimmers like Harrison Jones and Summer Spradley, this is one last opportunity for them to shave time and find themselves in the NCAA Championships.
Harrison Jones is coming off the best swim of his life in the 200 butterfly, where he swam a 1:42.84 to set a new school record and finish fifth overall at the SEC Championships last week.
Meanwhile, Summer Spradley swam a 2:12.28 in the 200 breaststroke to rise to third on the all-time list and reach the C-Final of the SEC Championships.
Both times are NCAA B-Cut times and are on the fence to be good enough to swim in March.
“The meet really gives us an opportunity to survey the NCAA times a bit and see if there are areas we need to improve our ranking in,” said LSU swimming coach Dave Geyer. “For someone like Harrison Jones, he is going to be on either side of NCAA qualification, so even a couple hundredths of a second can make a difference. For others, it gives them the chance to finish the season with best times and build into our offseason with some additional motivation.”
