Women’s Track & Field No. 7 in Week 2 Rankings

NEW ORLEANS – The LSU women’s track & field team moved up to No. 7 in the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Week 2 rankings of the regular season announced on Monday afternoon.

Strong performances by the Lady Tigers at the Razorback Invitational last week led to the two-slot jump in the rankings.

 

Junior Kortnei Johnson won the 60 meter dash with a personal record of 7.18 seconds and is one of three LSU sprinters ranked in the top-five in the NCAA in the event. Sophomore Cassondra Hall placed seventh with a time of 7.35. Johnson also posted a top-8 finish in the 200 meter dash with a time of 23.41.

 

Senior Mikiah Briscoe edged out sophomore Tonea Marshall for third place in the 60 meter hurdles with matching times of 8.14. Sophomore Brittley Humphrey placed sixth in the event with a time of 8.22.

 

Senior Kymber Payne picked up a point in the team standings at Arkansas with an eighth-place finish in the 400 meter dash invitational with a time of 53.92, while Ersula Farrow added five points in the 800 meter run invitational with a fourth-place mark of 2:05.58, one second off of her personal-best.

 

The combination of Rachel Misher, Zakiya Denoon, Milan Young and Payne finished third in the 4×400 meter relay invitational with a season-best time of 3:34.90.

 

In field events, rookie Abby O’Donoghue, junior Kaitlyn Walker and senior Briana Kelly took three of the top-8 spots in the high jump. O’Donoghue placed third, while Walker tied for fourth with heights of 1.73 meters. Kelly jumped 1.68 meters for sixth place.
