BATON ROUGE – The LSU gymnastics team (5-1, 3-0 SEC) held on to its second-place ranking in the standings following a score of 197.375 at the Metroplex Challenge in Fort Worth, Texas, RoadtoNationals.com released Monday.
National rankings are based on a team’s overall season average for the first few weeks of the season before switching to the regional qualifying score (RQS).
LSU’s bars and floor squads rank second in the nation on the events. The Tigers have been consistent on the floor with an average score of 49.375. Senior Myia Hambrick is the nation’s top performer with an average score of 9.956. Hambrick owns three scores of 9.95 and most recently a 9.975.
Junior Sarah Finnegan and sophomore Kennedi Edney rank seventh on bars with an average score of 9.906. The squad owns an average of 49.438 and has already sent the second and third-highest bars scores in school history in 2018.
The Tigers have worked a different vault lineup every meet this season with a 49.250 average. The squad owns a high of 49.350. The beam lineup has put together some strong performances and ranks fifth in the country with an average of 49.244.
The Tigers will take on No. 6 Kentucky inside the Maravich Center at 7:30 p.m. CT Friday. Fans are encouraged to purchase tickets early and arrive early.
