BATON ROUGE – The LSU women’s tennis team will open up the 2018 dual season with a doubleheader against Northwestern State at 11 a.m. and Southern at 4 p.m. at the LSU Tennis Complex on Saturday.
The Tigers have performed historically well against these two programs with a combined 46-1 record, including a pair of 7-0 victories to open up the season last year.
LSU enters the 2018 season with a preseason ranking of No. 22 in the country, its third-straight year ranked in the top-25 to begin the dual season.
LSU is currently the only women’s tennis program in the country with four players ranked in the top-75 and two ranked freshmen, and the Tigers will rely heavily on a strong freshman class to compete alongside established veterans.
Senior captain Ryann Foster and juniors Jessica Golovin and Kennan Johnson will provide veteran leadership this season as freshmen Elyse Lavender and Eden Richardson will look to improve on their impressive fall debuts and newcomer Luba Vasilyuk will get her first taste of competition in the Purple and Gold.
Northwestern St. went 13-9 last season and is in its first season under new head coach Jerry Gomez. Southern went 11-9 last season and is coached by Jeffrey Conyers in his 14th season with the team.
