BATON ROUGE – With the Southeastern Conference season now in full swing, the LSU Soccer team finds itself on the cusp of the Top 10 of the NCAA’s Ratings Percentage Index as the Tigers are up three spots this week to No. 11 in the latest RPI ranking released Monday morning.
LSU added to its NCAA Tournament resume with two more results over RPI top-40 teams this week with a 1-1 draw at No. 28 Alabama on Thursday night and a 2-2 home draw with No. 40 Mississippi State on Sunday to go along with a 1-0 home win over No. 12 Cincinnati on Sept. 17 for its first marquee win of the season.
In fact, LSU’s win over Cincinnati ranks as the third-best win this season among SEC programs after Florida beat No. 2 Stanford, 3-2, on Aug. 25 and South Carolina opened the campaign with a 2-0 win over No. 4 Central Florida on Aug. 18.
The Tigers currently sit as the third-highest-ranked team in the SEC behind No. 1 South Carolina and No. 10 Florida as the conference boasts eight of the NCAA’s Top 40 teams, including No. 16 Tennessee, No. 20 Texas A&M, No. 23 Ole Miss and No. 38 Auburn. Matches remaining on LSU’s schedule include fourth-ranked Central Florida and Texas A&M at home and Auburn and Ole Miss on the road in SEC play.
The Tigers are back in action Friday night as they travel to Lexington to face the Kentucky Wildcats in a match scheduled to kick off at 6:30 p.m. CT on the SEC Network+. They return to Baton Rouge on Thursday, Oct. 5, for a home match against the Georgia Bulldogs that is set to kick off at 6 p.m. CT at the LSU Soccer Stadium.
