Notes on the Tigers
LSU won three of four games last week, including a 2-1 series win at 14th-ranked Arkansas … the series win was the sixth straight for LSU over the Razorbacks and the Tigers’ 12th series win over Arkansas in the past 13 seasons … LSU trailed Arkansas, 8-1, heading into the seventh inning on Saturday, but the Tigers staged a dramatic rally, scoring nine runs over the final three innings to earn a 10-8 victory … the comeback was LSU’s second-largest on the road over the past 34 seasons – the largest comeback in that time span came at Georgia in 1999, when the Tigers recovered from an eight-run deficit to win the game … freshman right-hander Eric Walker fired the first complete game of his college career on Sunday, blanking Arkansas in a 2-0 victory … Walker, who improved to 4-0 this season and lowered his ERA to 2.45 in 47.2 innings, limited the Razorbacks to no runs on four hits with two walks and four strikeouts, throwing a season-high 119 pitches in the outing … the shutout was the first by an LSU pitcher since May 30, 2015, when Alex Lange blanked UNC Wilmington in the NCAA Baton Rouge Regional … Walker extended his consecutive scoreless innings streak to 16, as he fired seven scoreless frames against Texas A&M on April 1 … junior rightfielder Greg Deichmann led the Tigers at the plate in the Arkansas series, batting .462 (6-for-13) with one homer and five RBI … Deichmann launched a two-run homer in the eighth inning of Saturday’s game at Arkansas, reducing the Razorbacks’ lead to 8-5 and setting the stage for LSU’s five-run outburst in the ninth inning, when he contributed an RBI single … Deichmann also delivered an run-scoring single in the eighth inning of LSU’s 2-0 win over the Hogs … for the entire week – including Tuesday’s win over Grambling – Deichmann hit .471 (8-for-17) with one homer, five RBI and two runs scored … senior DH/catcher Jordan Romero enjoyed a productive week, batting .400 (6-for-15) in four games with one double, one homer and two RBI … freshman centerfielder Zach Watson batted .467 (7-for-15) last week with one triple, one homer, two RBI and two runs scored … LSU on Friday will retire the jersey No. 12 of second baseman Todd Walker, an all-American from 1992-94 and the 1993 College World Series Most Outstanding Player … Walker, who was inducted into the College Baseball Hall of Fame in 2009, was the 1994 first-round draft choice of the Minnesota Twins and enjoyed a 12-year MLB career.
