BATON ROUGE — Following her outstanding performances against Alabama and Auburn over the weekend, LSU’s Jade Lewis was named the SEC Freshman of the Week Wednesday.
Lewis had arguably her greatest weekend as a Tiger, defeating two ranked opponents in singles in the same weekend for the second time this season, becoming the first player to clinch back-to-back matches for LSU this season.
Against No. 44 Alabama on Friday, Lewis clinched a 4-3 win for the Tigers by defeating No. 59 Erin Routliffe on court one.
Lewis followed that performance on Sunday by clinching the highest-ranked team win in program history over No. 5 Auburn, defeating No. 29 Alizee Michaud in straight sets to earn the highest-ranked singles win of her young career.
The Hilton Head, S.C. native is off to an incredible 11-1 start in her debut season, with ten of those wins coming on court one and six of them coming against ranked opponents.
Lewis jumped nine spots to a career-high No. 30 in the latest singles rankings and helped LSU jumped 11 spots to a season-high No. 16 in the country in the latest team rankings.
The Tigers face off against the No. 20 Texas A&M Aggies Saturday, March 25 at the LSU Tennis Complex at 11 a.m.
