Men’s Tennis to Face No. 18 Kentucky in SEC Home Opener

BATON ROUGE. — The LSU men’s tennis team plays host to a SEC foe for the first time this season as the Tigers will face No. 18 Kentucky Friday at 5 p.m. at the LSU Tennis Complex.

Thoughts from Coach Brown
“We are really looking to build on some of the positive things from last weekend,” head coach Jeff Brown said. “We are looking forward to carrying the energy that our guys competed with last weekend into our match against Kentucky.”

The Matchup
LSU currently has a 2-8 record on the season and is 0-2 in conference while Kentucky is 10-5 and 1-1 in league play.

The Tigers have a 32-17 overall record against the Gamecocks. Last season, LSU defeated Kentucky 4-2 in Lexington. Jordan Daigle and Gabor Csonka each had a win on the singles court to contribute to the Tigers’ win.

Last Time Out
The Tigers dropped contests against No. 13 Florida and No. 19 South Carolina each by a score of 4-3 last weekend.

No. 47 Daigle and No. 43 Justin Butsch notched wins in both matches on the singles courts last weekend and are on a three-match win streak. Last weekend, Daigle recorded consecutive wins against ranked opponents as he defeated No. 6 Alfredo Perez of Florida and No. 43 Gabriel Friedrich of South Carolina.

Notes on the Wildcats
Kentucky has two men in the singles rankings: Ryotaro Matsumura is ranked 25th, William Bushamuka is ranked 28th and Nils Ellefsen is ranked 75th.

Beck Pennington and Enzo Wallart are the 70th-ranked doubles pair in the nation.
