Gymnastics in the Rankings – Week 9

BATON ROUGE – Following the third-highest score in school history against No. 3 Florida Sunday afternoon, a team score of 198.150, LSU remained at No. 2 in Monday’s Regional Qualifying Score (RQS) rankings released Monday.

The Tigers’ RQS improved to 197.775 after the win over the Gators, which clinched the SEC regular season championship. LSU has now been ranked second for eight-straight weeks by RoadToNationals.com.

Oklahoma owns the top spot in the RQS with a 197.990. The RQS is ascertained by taking a team’s top six scores – three of which must be from road/neutral meets – dropping the high score and averaging the remaining five scores.

LSU’s scores factored into the 197.775 RQS are the 197.700 at Arkansas and GymQuarters, 197.675 at Auburn, 197.975 vs. George Washington and Iowa, 198.150 vs. Florida and 197.825 vs. Georgia.

The Tigers’ 198.150 Sunday against Florida is dropped, and the remaining five scores averaged to a 197.775.

The team remained at No.1 on vault with an RQS of 49.500. The Tigers posted a score of 49.625 Sunday for the highest in the country. The squad, under assistant coach Bob Moore, now owns the top two vault scores in the country over the last two seasons.

After a perfect 10.0 score in the anchor spot, senior Ashleigh Gnat ranks No. 1 in the country with an RQS of 9.955. Gnat, who owns eight perfect scores for her career, is the only gymnast in the country with two 10s on vault this season.

The Tigers also rank No. 2 on beam and floor with an RQS 49.475 and 49.530 respectively. The bars squad ranks No. 3 in the nation as well. Individually, Gnat ranks No. 3 on floor and sophomore Sarah Finnegan ranks No. 3 on beam.

LSU is 12-1 overall and 7-0 against SEC opponents. The second-ranked tigers will face off against New Hampshire at 7:30 p.m. CT Friday on SEC Network+ through WatchESPN.com and the app. The meet marks the final time seniors Gnat, Sydney Ewing and Shae Zamardi will compete in the PMAC.
