BATON ROUGE — The No. 37 LSU women’s tennis team will continue SEC play against the No. 19 South Carolina Gamecocks at the LSU Tennis Complex Sunday at 11 a.m.

The Tigers (7-3; 0-1 SEC) dropped their SEC opener against No. 1 Florida, 7-0, while South Carolina (9-2; 1-0 SEC) defeated No. 20 Texas A&M, 4-2.

Junior Ryann Foster‘s 11-match win streak was snapped against Florida, and senior Joana Valle Costa lost her first match on court one this season against the Gators.

Although her Tiger squad suffered a temporary setback at the hands of the best team in the country, co-head coach Julia Sell is confident her team can improve and continue to have success this season, starting with the Gamecocks on Sunday.

“South Carolina is a really good team,” said Sell. “We have battles with them every time we play them. I think every team in the SEC this year is a top-20 team; the depth in our conference is unlike anything that’s out there.”

South Carolina has four players ranked in the top-125, including No. 29 sophomore Ingrid Gamarra Martins.

The Gamecocks are coached by Kevin Epley in his fifth season with the team.
