BATON ROUGE — The No. 37 LSU women’s tennis team will host the No. 1 Florida Gators in the first SEC match of the season at the LSU Tennis Complex Friday at 4 p.m.
The Tigers (7-2) are looking to rebound from a tough road loss against No. 36 Tulane in New Orleans to start a weekend that will see LSU face the Gators on Friday as well as No. 19 South Carolina on Sunday.
LSU’s last win against the Gators came in 2009 and their most recent match came in the quarterfinals of the SEC Tournament that LSU hosted last season.
The Tigers are 6-0 at home this season, winning their matches at the LSU Tennis Complex by a combined 33-2.
No. 95 Ryann Foster increased her singles winning streak to 11 consecutive matches while No. 52 Jade Lewis and Jessica Golovin improved their win streaks to seven and five consecutive matches, respectively.
No. 87 Joana Valle Costa has gone undefeated when playing on court one this season, but will likely return to court three this weekend where she is also undefeated.
This match will feature two of the top freshmen in the country in LSU’s Lewis and Florida’s No. 11 Ingrid Neel, one of Florida’s seven ranked players.
The Gators are coached by Roland Thornqvist in his 16th year with the team.
