BATON ROUGE, La. – LSU senior swimmers Angele Cherbonnier and Logan Rysemus have been named to the Southeastern Conference Community Service Team for their efforts in the Baton Rouge area, the league announced on Monday.
The SEC sponsors Community Service Teams for all 21 league sponsored sports. The Community Service Team looks to highlight an athlete from each school who gives back to their community in superior service efforts.
Cherbonnier serves on the Kappa Kappa Gamma Philanthropy Committee and as Vice President of Community Relations of the Student Athlete Advisory Committee. The New Orleans native is a BINGO caller at the Southside Gardens Retirement Center and Assisted Living.
Cherbonnier has also participated in the Delta Gamma Fan Day, Geaux Big Baton Rouge, the Baton Rouge flood relief, Thanksgiving with the Tigers and the LSU Athletics Boo-Zar.
Cherbonnier has volunteered with Young Heroes, the Williamsburg Community Living Center, the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Baton Rouge and Magnolia Woods. A two-time member of the SEC Academic Honor Roll, Cherbonnier was also named to the 2014-15 SEC Community Service Team.
Rysemus, has been a part of the LSU Athletics Boo-Zar, Lunch with the Tigers and Christmas with the Tigers. The Tacoma, Washington native has participated in the Terrace Elementary School Field Day, GEAUX BIG church clean-up, as well as LSU Move-In Day. Rysemus has also volunteered for the LSU Thank-a-thon, the Louisiana Flood Relief and at a local animal shelter.
In her final season, Cherbonnier earned personal bests in both the 50 free (1:07.37) and the 100 breaststroke (1:07.37).
Rysemus is the only swimmer on the team with two top-10 times in the country in the 100 back (45.89) and the 100 fly (45.98) that are good for sixth and eighth respectfully. Rysemus broke the school record in the 100 back this season at the Art Adamson Invite and is also the record holder in the 100 fly (45.19), setting the time at last year’s SEC Championships.
