BATON ROUGE — The LSU women’s tennis team placed three members in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association’s latest rankings Wednesday.

Freshman Jade Lewis is ranked the highest at No. 35 in the country, while senior Joana Valle Costa is ranked at No. 63 with junior Ryann Foster right behind her at No. 65.

Foster jumped 18 spots from her previous No. 83 ranking, while Lewis and Valle Costa each entered the rankings for the first time this season.

Foster’s impressive 11-4 fall tournament record earned her the No. 83 preseason ranking, and her undefeated start to the dual season has improved her overall singles record to 17-4 and increased her winning streak to nine consecutive matches.

Valle Costa has a 4-1 overall singles record with a win over No. 33 Kimmy Guerin on court one against Wake Forest.

Lewis is off to a 5-0 start to her LSU career with singles victories over No. 31 Arianne Hartono of Ole Miss and No. 91 Anki Wind of Memphis, both on court one. Her No. 35 ranking is the highest for an LSU freshman since Megan Falcon’s No. 2 ranking in 2007.

The Tigers are 5-1 on the season with an undefeated record at home. Their next match is Friday, Feb. 17 against South Florida at the LSU Tennis Complex.
