CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. — The LSU women’s tennis team is set to square off against Wake Forest in the first match of the ITA Kickoff Weekend at the Boar’s Head Sports Club Saturday at 9 a.m.
No. 19 LSU enters the Kickoff Weekend tournament as the No. 2 seed at the Charlottesville site behind host Virginia and ahead of third-seeded Wake Forest and fourth-seeded Ole Miss.
Virginia is one of 15 host sites for the women’s ITA Kickoff Weekend, with each location featuring four teams. The winner of the single-elimination event at each location advances to the ITA Division I National Team Indoor Championships Feb. 10-13.
Last season, LSU was one of only two second-seeded teams to advance to the ITA National Indoor Championships, defeating No. 35 DePaul and top-seeded host No. 24 Georgia Tech at the Atlanta location to clinch the first National Indoors appearance in school history.
LSU is 1-1 all-time against Wake Forest, with their only matches coming in 1981 and more recently in 2015.
Wake Forest is coached by Jeff Wyshner in his seventh season and has two players currently ranked in singles — No. 33 Kimmy Guerin and No. 61 Emma Davis.
