Six Former Tigers Vying for Spot in Super Bowl

BATON ROUGE – Six former LSU football players will be vying for a spot in the Super Bowl on Sunday when the NFC and AFC Championship Games take place in Atlanta and Foxborough.

LSU is guaranteed to have at least one player in the Super Bowl this year as the Tigers have players on the rosters of three of the four remaining playoff teams. The only team still alive in the playoffs that doesn’t have a Tiger on its roster is the Green Back Packers.

Of the six LSU players that remain in the playoffs, five are on the active roster, including three starters, with one on injured reserve.

Leading the way for the Tigers are three starters on the Atlanta Falcons, a group that includes rookie linebacker Deion Jones, defensive lineman Tyson Jackson and cornerback Jalen Collins. The Falcons host Green Bay at 2:05 p.m. CT on Sunday in what will be the final game played in the Georgia Dome. The Atlanta-Green Bay NFC Championship Game will be televised on FOX.

Sunday’s AFC Championship game has former Tiger Barkevious Mingo and the New England Patriots hosting Zach Mettenberger and the Pittsburgh Steelers at 5:40 p.m. on CBS. Rookie Jerald Hawkins is also on the Steelers roster but is inactive for the game due to an injury.
