BATON ROUGE – For the second consecutive week, LSU junior Myia Hambrick has been named the Southeastern Conference Gymnast of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday.
In Friday’s victory over No. 4 Alabama, Hambrick captured her second all-around title of the season and the eighth of her career with a score of 39.600. The Temple, Georgia native also tied for the title on floor with a 9.95 to match her career high.
Hambrick finished second on vault and beam with scores of 9.925 and 9.900 respectively. In the national rankings, Hambrick is third in the all-around and floor. She is also fourth in the country on vault and 11th on beam.
A five-time SEC Gymnast of the Week, Hambrick helped the Tigers to a 197.575 for the best score at Alabama and the third-highest score in an SEC road meet in school history. The 49.600 vault score and 49.525 floor score were also the highest on the road against an SEC opponent in school history.
The Tigers sit at No. 2 in the team rankings after defeating Alabama. The victory marked the first time in school history that the program has defeated Alabama on the road in consecutive meets. The senior class of Ashleigh Gnat, Sydney Ewing and Shae Zamardi finished their careers with four-straight regular season wins over the Crimson Tide.
LSU returns to the Maravich Center for their second home meet of the season at 7:30 p.m. CT Friday against Texas Woman’s University. LSU is 12-0 all-time against TWU. The meet will be streamed broadcast live on SECNetwork+ through WatchESPN.com and the app.
