BATON ROUGE – LSU associate head coach Jill Lytle Wilson has been named the head coach of the Virginia Tech volleyball program, the school announced Thursday.
I” am excited for Jill as she takes the next step in her career,” head coach Fran Flory said. “She is the ultimate professional and she will be a great addition to Va Tech. On the court, her influence as a coach and a mentor has guided our players to develop as amazing leaders. Her expertise as a coach has guided our team to many great seasons. She has changed many lives by attracting great people and players to our program. Jill means the world to our team and our volleyball program and we could not be happier for her.”
Lytle-Wilson was a four-year letter winner from 1997-2000 and on Flory’s staff as an assistant and associate head coach the last 10 seasons. The program’s recruiting coordinator, Lytle Wilson was instrumental in hauling in four, top-30 recruiting classes.
Over the course of Lytle Wilson’s time on staff, LSU has racked up 181 victories. In addition to the victories, the Tigers have picked up six NCAA Tournament berths sparked by three, 25-win seasons in 2007, 2009 and 2010. LSU has secured five SEC Western Division titles, highlighted by the 2009 SEC overall championship, which was the program’s first since 1991.
“I am thrilled and humbled to accept this opportunity to serve as head volleyball coach at Virginia Tech,” Lytle Wilson said. “I’ve been extremely fortunate to have learned so much from all the coaches that I played for and worked with over the years. I’m especially appreciative of Fran Flory having faith in me as a student-athlete, and later as an assistant coach for her at LSU. I owe her and all our student-athletes a huge debt of gratitude”
On the court, Lytle Wilson has helped LSU place four players on the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) All-South Region team in five of her 10 season
Prior to joining Flory’s staff, Lytle Wilson spent one season as an assistant coach at Wake Forest. The Richmond, Texas native also was an assistant coach at the University of North Carolina from 2000-2004. Lytle Wilson began her coaching career at LSU as a student assistant in 2001.
