Allen Added To Beach Roster For Upcoming Season

BATON ROUGE- The LSU beach volleyball team has added its newest member, Gonzaga graduate transfer Emmy Allen, for the upcoming 2017 season, announced head coach Russell Brock.

“We’re excited to have Emmy with us. She’s got a history of success from the indoor side of things. I got to watch her play this summer, and she’s invested in the sport,” said Brock.

“She’s really excited about it, and she’s got some incredible tools and fits in to our beach family that we’ve got going here. In a lot of ways, it makes sense, and she’s going to be able to contribute and make us a better team.”

Allen, a native of Mill Creek, Washington, earned First Team All-West Coast Conference honors during her senior season at Gonzaga for the indoor squad, totaling 377 kills and a 3.59 kills per set average that were both for fifth-best in the conference.

Allen also accumulated 186 digs, 53 blocks and 18 service aces her final year and received First Team WCC All-Academic accolades. In her junior campaign, Allen started all 21 matches, finishing third on the team with 263 kills and fourth in digs with 225, leading the team in service aces at 26.

With Allen, Gonzaga compiled a 17-11 overall record, marking the highest finish for the Lady Bulldogs since 1992 and the highest winning percentage (.607) since 1990.

Prior to her two-year tenure at Gonzaga, Allen spent two seasons at Washington State, totaling 313 kills, 60 blocks and 57 digs, earning Pac-12 All-Freshman and All-Academic Honorable Mentions.

The Lady Tigers returned to practice on Monday and started the new semester Wednesday morning. LSU will kick off the season with the annual Purple and Gold Scrimmage at 10 a.m. CT Saturday, February 18 at Mango’s Beach Volleyball Club off of Sherwood Forest in Baton Rouge.
