BATON ROUGE — LSU’s Juan Celaya-Hernandez has been named SEC Male Freshman of the Week in an announcement Tuesday by the SEC office.
Celaya-Hernandez, a native of Mexico, notched a total of three victories in five events last week at the Tennessee Diving Invitational and the Alabama dual meet. Celaya-Hernandez captured gold on one-meter (377.15) and platform (413.55) at the Tennessee Diving Invitational, wrapping up the week with a first-place finish on three-meter (387.90) in a home dual meet against Alabama, finishing no lower than third in any of his events.
“Juan had a great week of competition after three wins in five events,” said head diving coach Doug Shaffer. “His freshman year is turning out to be a great year. He hasn’t really peaked and put everything together yet, so we’re excited as we move forward for the remainder of the season to see how this is all going to pan out.”
On the season, Celaya-Hernandez, a two-time SEC Diver of the Week, has won nine total events, including four of five on three-meter, breaking the school and pool record on three-meter in his debut performance against Auburn.
