BATON ROUGE – Fifteen former LSU football players – the most of any school in the nation – begin their pursuit for a Super Bowl title on Saturday when the wildcard round of the NFL Playoffs start.
LSU has at least one active player on the roster of 10 of the 12 teams in the NFL playoffs, which includes three members on both the Atlanta Falcons and New York Giants rosters. The only two playoff teams without a former LSU player on its roster are the Green Bay Packers and Detroit Lions.
Nine former Tigers will be in action during the four NFL Wildcard Playoff games this weekend.
On Saturday at 3:35 p.m. CT on ESPN, Alfred Blue and the Houston Texans will face the Oakland Raiders, which features former Tiger linebacker Perry Riley and offensive lineman Vadal Alexander.
Saturday night at 7:15 CT on NBC, former LSU running back Terrance Magee will be in action for the Seattle Seahawks when they face the Detroit Lions.
On Sunday at 12:05 p.m. CT on CBS, former Tiger great Jarvis Landry will lead the Miami Dolphins against the Pittsburgh Steelers, whose roster includes former LSU quarterback Zach Mettenberger.
Sunday afternoon at 3:40 CT on FOX, three former Tigers – all starters – will be in action when the New York Giants take on the Green Bay Packers at Lambeau Field. Odell Beckham Jr., Kelvin Sheppard and Brad Wing will all play a key role for the Giants on Sunday at Lambeau where the temperatures are supposed to be 9 degrees at kickoff.
Six former Tigers enjoy a Wildcard Weekend bye and will be in action next week. That list include three defensive starters for the Atlanta Falcons – linebacker Deion Jones, defensive end Tyson Jackson, and cornerback Jalen Collins – along with cornerback Mo Claiborne of the Dallas Cowboys, linebacker Barkevious Mingo of the New England Patriots and running back Spencer Ware of the Kansas City Chiefs.
