Track & Field Classes Earn Top 5 Rankings

BATON ROUGE – LSU Track & Field’s recruiting Class of 2016 is sure to make an immediate impact on the program’s push for SEC and NCAA championships during the upcoming 2017 season after rookie classes for both the Tigers and Lady Tigers earned top-five marks with the release of the Track & Field News Recruiting Rankings.

The Lady Tigers signed five high school standouts from across the country to National Letters of Intent last fall as their freshmen have been ranked the No. 3-ranked recruiting class nationally and the top-ranked crop in the Southeastern Conference. They trail only No. 1 Stanford and No. 2 Oregon in Track & Field News’ 2016 recruiting rankings.

The Tigers’ incoming class has picked up a No. 4 national ranking as the second-best group in the SEC as they trail only No. 1 UCLA, No. 2 Oregon and No. 3 Tennessee as the top classes competing in 2017.

LSU’s men have added tremendous depth in the jumps with the addition of long jumper Rayvon Grey (Beacon, New York), triple jumper Christian Miller (Monroe, Louisiana) and high jumper Milton Harrell (Tylertown, Mississippi), along with the signing of junior college All-American sprinter Chris Lewis (Heflin, Louisiana).

LSU’s women will soon feature many of the nation’s best recruits on the track with sprinter Cassondra Hall (Eastman, Georgia), hurdlers Brittley Humphrey (Hoover, Alabama) and Tonea Marshall (Arlington, Texas) and middle distance runner Ruby Stauber (Plymouth, Minnesota) joining shot put star Nickolette Dunbar (Whippany, New Jersey) in a well-rounded group of freshmen.
