AUBURN, Ala.- On the final day of the Auburn Diving Invitational, the LSU diving team finished with a strong performance on platform as Matthew Phillip took second overall for the men to conclude the meet.

The diving squad will return to action for the Tennessee Diving Invitational on January 3 in Knoxville, Tennessee.

“Overall, I’m very pleased with the performance the divers had over the weekend in Auburn,” said head diving coach Doug Shaffer. “For the course of three days and six individual competitions, we had some excellent performances and a good gauge on what we need to work on going into 2017.

For the men’s team, Phillip tallied a second-place finish with a score of 357.60. Juan-Celaya Hernandez came in fourth after scoring a 324.20. Matt McClellan followed in eighth place after collecting a finish of 297.60 on six dives.

On the women’s side, Lizzie Cui placed seventh overall at 212.20. Makayla Robillard closed out the event with a score of 209.00 for ninth place.

“We will take a well-deserved break to spend time with our families and then start off the new year with competition at the Tennessee Diving Invitational,” said Shaffer.
