AUBURN, Ala.- Juan Celaya-Hernandez placed first overall on men’s one-meter, en route to securing his fifth victory on the season on day one of the Auburn Diving Invitational at the James E. Martin Aquatics Center.
The team will return to action tomorrow morning in the preliminaries for the women’s one-meter and men’s three-meter at 11 a.m. CT.
“We got off to a good start,” said head diving coach Doug Shaffer. “We had some hiccups in our performance which I would expect given our schedule and coming off finals. But overall, it was a good first day. We will now switch events and move to day two”
In the men’s championship finals on one-meter, Celaya-Hernandez put on a dominant performance, scoring a personal best of 397.50 to add another first-place finish to his stellar freshman campaign. On the season, Celaya-Hernandez has compiled five wins in six events, finishing no lower than second place.
Andrew Suchla finished fifth overall in the finals, posting a score of 314.95.
In the consolation final, Matt McClellan took gold after finishing with a score of 298.05. Matthew Phillip also garnered fourth overall at 259.90 to round out the men.
For the women, Lizzie Cui and Makayla Robillard dove to personal bests in the preliminaries on three-meter with scores of 360.70 and 289.60 respectively. Cui also improved her score on the LSU all-time list to retain third place. Rileigh Knox wrapped up the prelims with a finish of 257.15.
In the championship round, Cui took second overall on three-meter with a score of 354.40. Robillard capped off the first day of the Invitational with a seventh-place finish at 279.30.
