GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The LSU volleyball team (7-14, 2-8 SEC) will continue its Southeastern Conference road weekend against No. 9 Florida (19-2, 9-1 SEC) at 11 a.m. CT Sunday at the Gators’ Lemerand Athletic Center.
The matchup between the Gators and Tigers will be televised live on the SEC Network. Fans can also catch the action between the teams on WatchESPN.com and the app. The two teams last squared off on Friday, Oct 14 when the Gators won 3-0 in Baton Rouge.
Last Time Out
After a nine-day break from competition, LSU fell, 3-1, to South Carolina in Columbia. Redshirt sophomore Toni Rodriguez did not start the match but finished with a season-best 16 kills and career-best .424 hitting percentage. After dropping the opening set, the Tigers evened the match at 1-1. The squad went on to drop the final two sets by a combined five points.
A Look at Florida
At 19-2 overall and 9-1 in conference, Florida sits atop the Southeastern Conference standings tied with Missouri and Kentucky. Rachel Kramer and Rhamat Alhassan are first and second in the league in hitting percentage at .500 and .425 respectively. As a squad, the Gators rank first in the league in hitting percentage, opponent hitting percentage, assists, and are tied for the lead in blocks.
Team Notes
>> This season, the Tigers are 3-4 in road matches and 2-3 in road conference matches. All seven wins for LSU this season have come on the road.
>> LSU has hit less than .249 in 15 matches this season. The squad is 5-1 when hitting greater than .250 as a team.
>> Junior Gina Tillis has led the way for the team through the season in kills with 249 and is second with 210 digs. In her career, Tillis has amassed 743 kills and 412 digs.
>> Senior Tiara Gibson owns a start in every match this season and has played in all but one set for the Tigers. Gibson has more than doubled her kills output from her opening season with 176. The South Dakota native also owns a team-best 60 blocks.
>> Freshman Anna Zwiebel has 607 assists and 158 digs for the Tigers. Sophomore Lindsay Flory was inserted in the lineup last match and finished with a career-best 36 assists.
> Junior Cheyenne Wood is LSU’s libero and leads the way with 307 digs at 3.99 digs per set. Wood works with Kelly Quinn and Katie Kampen defensively for the Tigers.
>> The Gators leads the all-time series with the Tigers, 44-14.
>> UF has been ranked in every match between the two schools since 1991 with 32 times UF being inside
the top-10.
>> The last win for LSU against Florida came in 2009 when the Tigers took a 3-1 win over the 11th-ranked Gators. LSU also swept Florida that season for LSU’s first win in 18 years.
