TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — After two more victories Sunday, LSU senior Skylar Holloway made it four straight wins in singles play and advanced to the final match of the consolation round of the ITA Southern Regional at the University of Alabama.
In the quarterfinals, Holloway defeated Caroline Turner of Auburn in straight sets before moving on the semis where she took care of business against No. 51 Natalie Suk of Ole Miss in a thrilling three-set match.
“Skylar had two impressive performances today,” said co-head coach Michael Sell. “She took down the No. 51 player in the country this afternoon, but she really won this match through all the hard work she has put in this fall.”
Holloway has notably turned up her play in the regional tournament in both singles and doubles competitions, and it has earned her a spot in the consolation finals Monday against Tiffany Mylonas from the University of Louisiana-Monroe.
“She is taking ownership of her game and proving it on the court,” said Sell. “She is starting to believe how good she can be and we are excited she earned the chance to play in the finals tomorrow.”
Meanwhile, after making it all the way to the quarterfinals in the main draw, Ryann Foster fell to No. 17 Arianna Hartono, wrapping up yet another impressive run in a fall tournament this season.
In doubles, Foster and Holloway faced Auburn’s pairing of Alizee Michaud and Alannah Griffin in an extremely close and competitive match that ended in Michaud/Griffin’s favor, 8-7(6).
Holloway’s final match begins at 9 a.m. CT on Monday as part of the fourth and final day of the ITA Southern Regional.
