TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — The Lady Tigers had a successful second day at the ITA Southern Regional as Skylar Holloway and Ryann Foster combined for three total wins across singles and doubles competition at the Alabama Tennis Stadium Saturday.
Foster defeated No. 84 Madison Harrison of Mississippi St. in straight sets to advance to the main draw quarterfinals while Holloway overpowered Troy’s Nancy Karaky 6-1, 6-2 in singles consolation.
“Ryann battled through being under the weather to beat another ranked opponent today in a Tiger-like effort,” said co-head coach Michael Sell. “She was disciplined and clutch in key areas of the match to secure the win.”
Foster and Holloway also combined to take down the duo of Hannah Brett and Julia Kral from McNeese in doubles consolation after dropping their opening match in the round of 16.
“Skylar has raised her level of play the past two matches,” said Sell. “She has been putting in the work in practice, so it’s great to see her playing with such quality and earning several wins. We are counting on Skylar being a big part of our team this year in terms of both performance and leadership.”
Holloway and Foster return to doubles competition Sunday against Auburn’s combo of Alizee Michaud and Alannah Griffin at 9 a.m. before continuing their singles campaigns beginning at 11 a.m.
Holloway will square off against Caroline Turner of Auburn in the consolation quarterfinals while the eighth-seeded Foster will look to advance to the singles semifinal round of the regional when she faces No. 17 and second-seeded Arianne Hartono from Ole Miss.
