Volleyball Takes Momentum to Georgia

ATHENS, Ga. – Fresh off its first Southeastern Conference win of the season, a 3-2 victory over Ole Miss, the LSU volleyball team (6-10, 1-4 SEC) looks to continue its momentum against Georgia (13-5, 1-4 SEC) at 12:30 p.m. CT Sunday at Stegman Coliseum.

The matchup between the Tigers and Bulldogs will be streamed live on SEC Network+. Fans can catch the action online through WatchESPN.com and the Watch ESPN app.

Flory’s Thoughts
“I’m proud of how we fought back on Wednesday night at Ole Miss,” head coach Fran Flory said. “We really need to carry that same fight and trust into Sunday against Georgia. I think moving forward we have to continue building our trust and confidence.”

Last Time Out
The Tigers won their first conference match of the season and their first match in almost a month 12-25, 18-25, 25-19, 25-18, 15-13 in Oxford Wednesday night. The Rebels dominated the opening two sets with hitting percentages over .300 and .550 respectively. After the intermission, LSU came out on fire on the defensive side and offensive side sparked by middle blocker Olivia Beyer to push the match to a fifth set. In the fifth set down 12-9, LSU found a way to win six of the next seven points to capture the win.

A Look at Georgia
The Bulldogs are also fresh off their first SEC win of the season, 3-0, over South Carolina on Friday. Georgia owns the eight-best hitting percentage overall at .233 and is sixth in the conference in opponent hitting percentage at .185. Setter Meghan Donovan is seventh in the league in assists and Maddie Lobenstein ranks 13th in points and 10th in service aces at 18.

Team Notes
>> Gina Tillis (183), Tiara Gibson (136) and Sydney Mukes (110) are the top three kill leaders for the Tigers. The trio led the way for LSU against Ole Miss with 12 kills each. Tillis is 15th in the league in points at 3.50 per set.

>> Freshman Anna Zwiebel is the squad’s setter at 483 assists with 8.47 per set. Zwiebel is also in triple digits in digs at 128. The Louisville native owns 12 aces on the season.

>> Junior Cheyenne Wood is LSU’s libero and leads the way with 236 digs at 3.93 digs per set. Wood works with Kelly Quinn and Katie Kampen defensively for the Tigers with Quinn holding a spot in the starting lineup in the last six matches.

>> Zwiebel,Quinn, Tillis and Wood finished with double-digit digs against Ole Miss. It marked the first time since Auburn in 2015 that three players have finished with 15 or more digs in a match.

>> Katie Kampen provided a strong spot for LSU with a career-best five service aces against the Rebels. Kampen became the first player since October 2014 to finish with five or more aces in a match.

>> LSU moved to 1-8 in matches after trailing 0-2 and 2-2 in matches that go to five sets. It marked the first victory since Arkansas in November 2014 in which LSU lost the first two sets in a win.

>> LSU is 2-2 in away matches this season and 1-1 in conference road matches. Three of LSU’s four road matches this season have gone to a fifth set and LSU is 2-1 in those situations.

>> LSU leads the all-time series with the Bulldogs, 35-20. The Tigers have won 18 of the last 21 matches between the squads with nine of those wins in Athens.
