BATON ROUGE – LSU men’s basketball coach Johnny Jones took his Tiger team through a 2 hour and 15-minute workout Wednesday afternoon at the LSU Practice Facility in the men’s gym nicknamed “The Lab.”
The LSU coaching staff took the Tigers through a session combining all facets of the game and Coach Jones was pleased with the effort and attitude of his team.
“The benefit of having the two hours a week with the team (during fall drills prior to the start of official pre-season practice) was that I thought we were able to get a lot covered today and even introduce a couple of new things to these guys,” Coach Jones said after practice. “We are excited about the effort and the attitude that the guys put into the practice from start to finish. Even with the new things we implemented, they were able to pick it up very quickly. That was encouraging and we look forward to (Thursday’s) practice.”
The Tigers started the practice with a 15-minute session at different goals in various groups working with each of the assistant coaches on different skill sets before meeting at a team with Coach Jones to begin several of the ball handling and defensive drills. The Tigers also worked on rebounding, transition defense and their transition offense.
“Our first half of practice was primarily about defending – shell stuff, rebounding and transition. So we got a lot covered on the defensive end in the first hour,” said Coach Jones. “Then we tried to implement some things on the offensive end of the floor. We think these guys will really benefit from what we do offensively, because we can keep the floor spaced with the shooters that we have. So we were certainly able to get a lot of things addressed today.”
LSU will play an exhibition game on Nov. 7 against Reinhardt before opening the regular season on Nov. 12 against Wofford in the Pete Maravich Assembly Center. Season ticket information is available at LSUtix.net.
