NORMAN, Oklahoma – Senior LSU women’s golfer Caroline Nistrup, playing her first collegiate competitive round in just under a year, opened with under par rounds of 69 and 70 on the first day of the Schooner Fall Classic here Saturday.

The Lady Tigers in their opening event of the fall is in sixth place in the event at 11-over par 579 (par 71 course) on rounds of 291 and 288. Nistrup is tied for seventh after the first day of the 54-hole event at 3-under par 139, four shots out of the individual lead.

The tentative final round start time is set for Sunday at 11 a.m. CT on the Belmar Golf Course layout with the possibility of play continuing into Monday, which was the original final round date before a decision was made Friday to play 36 holes on Saturday to possibly avoid weather issues during the weekend.

Nistrup, who did not play again in the 2015-16 season after injuring her wrist early in fall play, had seven birdies and just four bogeys to go with 25 pars in her 36 holes of play. The native of Denmark tied for the first day lead with two other golfers in play on the par 5 holes at 5-under par. The individual leaders are Morgane Metraux of Florida State (68-67) and Cheyenne Knight of Alabama (66-69) at 7-under 135.

Florida State and Alabama are 1-2 in the team standings with FSU at 19-under par after 36 holes (270-279) at 549, eight shots ahead of the Crimson Tide at 557 (-11, 275-282). Clemson, in third, is the other team under par after two rounds at 2-under 566 with host Oklahoma in fourth at even par 568. Kent State at 8-over, three shots ahead of LSU, is in fifth.

For the Lady Tigers it was a good start, counting no round higher than 75 in the first round with 75 being the drop score in the second round. Freshman Monica Dibildox from Mexico had a good start with rounds of 73-72 for a 3-over 145 and is in a group at T25. Claudia De Antonio, from Venezuela, after also missing most of the year last season because of injury, and Baton Rouge junior Sydney Cavin, both posted 7-over 149 for the day (T39).

Sophomore Kathleen Gallagher had a strong rally in the afternoon round with a one-over par round of 72 and is at 9-over 151 entering the final round.

As a team LSU was third in the field with a +7 on the par four holes. The Tigers posted 112 pars and 25 birdies over the long day of play.
