Flory’s Thoughts
“This was not the team that played at Orlando last weekend. They played at a really high level, we were confident, we were poised and we were composed. I really thought our upperclassmen would push through but it didn’t happen. We couldn’t get anything out of anybody. It was a disappointing performance.”
Opening Set
The Bears took control of the first set with 16 kills and just two errors for a .452 hitting percentage. The Tigers faltered with seven errors in the frame. Staiger showed off with a dominating 10 kills on 12 attempts for a hitting percentage of .833. Despite LSU being outhit, the set featured six tie scores and two lead changes.
Second Set
Baylor took hold of the second set and never looked back, getting out to a 12-2 lead. The Tigers tied it at one in the beginning but the Bears never relinquished the lead. Although Baylor hit just .192 in the set, they took advantage of seven LSU attacking errors and five service errors.
Deciding Set
LSU took advantage of nine attacking errors by Baylor and a .154 hitting percentage to keep the match close but ultimately the Tiger couldn’t close it out after hitting just .088. Trailing 21-17, LSU fired off three of the next points to force the Bears to take a timeout. After LSU took a 24-23 lead looking to force a fourth set, Baylor closed out the match with a kill by Staiger and two errors by LSU.
